THE
NUMERICAL WIND TUNNEL

The Numerical Wind Tunnel is a 3D Computational
Fluid Dynamics program. Some of its features are:
- Immersed
Boundary Method (IBM) for boundary condition specification,
which allows easy simulation of moving objects.
- Anisotropic
Cartesian mesh with automatic grid refinement/coarsening
(based on inter cell velocity gradients).
- Parallelized code running
on PC clusters and supercomputers, with dynamic domain
decomposition and automatic cell redistribution.
- Multi scale Large Eddy
Simulation turbulence model.
The code has been used to simulate
the flow around long cylindrical petroleum exploration
risers subjected to vortex induced vibrations. Results of these
simulations will also be presented. The documentation is being
prepared to release the Numerical Wind Tunnel as "free ware".
